Started in 2008 and having grown since, CERT Support services
offers our Basic CERT members an opportunity to assist their community without
there being a major CERT activation. Since it's creation, numerous CERT
members have taken training in Ham Radio, First Responder, Wilderness Search,
Wide Area Search and much more in an effort to be qualified in Advanced CERT
areas.
Basic CERT members who are willing to make the time
commitment and pay their $20 annual Workman's Comp fee can consider becoming
part of CERT Support Services. CERT members often take training and choose
to be involved in several divisions of Support Services. CERT Support
Services is composed of 3 divisions:

- Communications
- Rehab
- Search & Rescue
To Learn more
about each division, read below:
With over 50
trained Ham Radio Operators,
CERT has become a recognized
partner of local ARES/RACES
groups. With a large
communications infrastructure in
place, along with a new combined
response trailer for 2012, our
CERT Ham Radio Operators will
have their own office for
Emergency Communications.
For those wishing to specialize
in Ham Radio Disaster
Communications for either CERT
or ARES/RACES, please contact
Bob Grudzien at

One one of most important things for First Responders to
receive during long responses are proper hydration and nutrition. Already
equipped with a response trailer and Gator, CERT plans to combine these resource
into one deployable trailer for 2012. Since it's creation in 2008, the
CERT Rehab Unit has responded to the following (links go to old webpage

With 15 Activations in 3 years, the CERT Rehab group has been relatively busy.
In 2012, CERT is considering creating different levels of Rehab. If this
occurs, our number of activations should increase. |

With over
40 trained volunteers in ERI FUNSAR and/or
TEEX Wide Area Search, our SAR division can
provide trained ground pounders for a
wilderness or Urban search. Often
partnering with SCSARDA, our SAR divison has
been increasing recognized across the
County. Often activated in conjunction
with SCSARDA, CERT support services brings
trained volunteers to the table and a Rehab
division that keeps all volunteers
hydrated/nourished. In 2012, our all
in one response trailer will bring all
facets of CERT Support Services to the
table. Since our creation of the SAR
division, we've built our personnel and
equipment up. During this continuous
evolution, CERT SAR has responded to the
following incidents (links to old webpage

With 8
activation in years, and numerous hours
spent training, CERT SAR brings a wealth of
experience to any search. With our new
volunteer coverage, Spartanburg CERT SAR
looks to be a regional resource, teaming up
with SCSARDA when the need arrises.
With our new response trailer soon to be
unveiled, 2012 will be an exciting time for
all of our CERT Support Services members.
