The Spartanburg County CERT program held its first exercise of 2010 on May 18th. We had 28 people graduate from the CERT program. Since this was our first graduation/exercise in several months, it was a little bit of an adjustment for us. However, everything went well. I would like to thank our 28 CERT Graduates (see CERT Graduates), Cherise Crosby, Chantella Crosby, AJ Crosby, LJ Crosby, DJ Crosby, Barbara Grudzien, Bob Grudzien, Robert McKee and Sam Etheredge for coming out. In addition, I would like to thank Spartanburg Community College for hosting this event. We hope you enjoy the pictures Robert McKee took at this event
| The Spartanburg County CERT Program held it's second graduation exercise of 2010 on October 19th. We had 35 people graduate from the CERT program that night. As always, I would like to thank our 35 CERT graduates (CERT Graduates), Bill Leeder, Cherise Crosby, Chantella Crosby, AJ Crosby, DJ Crosby, LJ Crosby, Barbara Grudzien, Bob Grudzien, Sam Etheredge, and Robert McKee for coming out. In addition, I would like to thank Spartanburg Community College for hosting the event. With our largest class in several years, the accommodations were perfect. With that said, I hope you enjoy the pictures Robert McKee took at this event.
| NOVEMBER 1, 2010 - ACHIEVE PROGRAM For the first time ever, the Spartanburg County CERT program taught a class during the day for the kids in the Achieve Program. While I forgot to take pictures during the actual exercise, we did take pictures during the graduation. I can't thank the Achieve Program enough for letting us do this. In addition, I can't thank Barbara Grudzien, Bob Grudzien, and Angela Miller for teaching. While they were all great, I gave to give a special thank you to Barb who taught the most classes and assisted with the exercise. With that said, feel free to check out the graduation pics. | For the first time ever, CERT graduated two consecutive CERT classes with over 30 in each class. In this class, 33 people completed the program, bringing us to over 100 for the year, and over 600 trained since we came into existence in Aug 2005. While this year has been trying for many of us, this last class was very enjoyable and probably one of our more enjoyable classes to teach. All in all, this class was a huge success and we hope it can help us foster a relationship with SMC. With that said, feel free to check out the pics various members/students took during this event. | NOVEMBER 20, 2010 - VRC EXERCISE For the second year in a row, the Spartanburg County CERT program played a pivotal role in the VRC exercise. Hosted by Spartanburg County VOAD, this annual exercise test out County's ability to address the spontaneous volunteer issue during disasters. In addition to CERT, the American Red Cross, Mobile Meals, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, and Americorp assisted. For CERT, the following members participated: Steve Caldwell, Melanie Ballew, Arif Chaudhary, AJ Crosby, Chantella Crosby, Cherise Crosbty, DJ Crosby, Sam Etheredge, Teresa Foster, Don Jones, LJ Crosby, Elaine Gutierrez, Jorge Gutierrez, Barbara Grudzien, Leo Lopshire, Robert Mckee, Vivian Tanner, Beverly Tonkovic, Robin Tonkovic, Chris Vasilenko, Rebecca Vasilnenko, Vera Vasilenko, Wayne Vasilenko, and Marge Woodruff. Overall, we had another successful VRC exercise but it could not have been done without so many great volunteers. In addition a special thanks to McDonalds (coffee) and Krispy Kreme (Doughnuts) for their generous donations.
