SPECIAL EVENTS - 2008

1/13/09 - SUPPORT SERVICE DONATIONS & SUPPLIES

On 1/13/09, Costco of Spartanburg kindly donated the supplies needed for our Spartanburg County Support Services Initiative.  Overall, they donated 21 cases of water, 21 cases of Gatorade, 4 boxes of Cheese-Its, 3 boxes of variety chips, 5 boxes of nuts, 2 boxes of multigrain bars, 3 cans of coffee, 1,000 cups, coffee filters, 2 larges packs of paper towels, 1 variety pack of snacks, 2 boxes of hot chocolate, and 2 things of M&M's.  On behalf of all Spartanburg County First Responders, I cannot thank them enough for their generosity.  In addition to Costco, Freeman Gas donated several propane tanks and numerous items have been purchased for this initiative.  To view a few pictures of the stuff donated and/or purchased, please click on the gallery link above.  If you're not a member of Costco or don't get your gas from Freeman, please consider doing so.

1/25/09 - CPR REFRESHER CLASS

For many who took First Responder with Chief McNeil, their Health Care CPR Cards were about the expire.  With a full class, Bob Grudzien took several hours and taught a great refresher class.  I would like to thank Bob for teaching and the following CERT members for maintaining their certification: Linda Bridges, Arif Chaudhary, Cherise Crosby, Sam Etheredge, Teresa Foster, Bill Leeder, Doug Nissley, Lee Terry, Tracy Terry, and Johnny Tucker.  As always, Doug Nissley took some great pictures.  I hope, for those who still need to be recertified, they take advantage of the next class.

2/2009 - PROGRAM IN NATIONAL NEWSLETTER

The CERT National Program Office recently issued Volume 1, Issue 2 of the quarterly "CERT National Newsletter." The Spartanburg County Campus CERT initiative was recently spotlighted in this issue.  We're very honored and excited to be included in this National Publication.   The newsletter is posted on the CERT national website and can also be viewed by clicking here: CERT National Newsletter

2/11/09 - CPR REFRESHER CLASS

For those who were unable to sign up in time for the First Refresher, Bob offered another class.  While two were unable to make it, the following people attended this class: Karmilla Brannon, Eric Bremer, Doug Martin, Mary McAbee, Richard McAbee, and Eleretha Wade.  Since Doug was unavailable, I took several pics during this class.  I hope you enjoy them.

3/19/09 - MARCH OF DIMES - HOTDOG SALE

Spartanburg County utilized Spartanburg Rehab Unit 1 (Fire Marshal Grill) and Rehab Unit 2 (Rehab Unit Trailer ) for their March of Dimes Hotdog Sale.  Basically, all I did was provide the trailer and power.  Several county employees fixed the food while Tony Barnett prepared it.  When it was all over, Spartanburg County raised $740.00 for their March of Dimes campaign.  If you've want to get an idea what it would be like to prepare and serve food out of the trailer, take a look at these pictures taken by Johnny Lewis.

3/21/09 - REHAB UNIT EXERCISE

Spartanburg CERT Support Services Rehab Unit assisted the following Fire Departments with a weekend exercise: Arkwright, City of Spartanburg, Croft, and Roebuck FD.  I would like to thank the following CERT members who participated in this exercise: Mike Carkhuff, Marie Chaney, William Culver, Antonio Craig, Sam Etheredge, Teresa Foster, Bob Grudzien, Barbara Grudzien, Tim Jamison, Bill Leeder, Mary McAbee, Richard McAbee, Tammy McGraw, Robert McKee, Doug Nissley, and Johnny Tucker.

4/4/09 - CHRISTMAS IN ACTION

The Spartanburg CERT program geared up for another Christmas in Action project and like before, this project took several days to complete.  After Day 1, the ramp was built and we were making moderate progress in the bathroom.  A limited workspace in the bathroom greatly hindered our efforts to finish the project in an expeditious fashion.  Regardless, it was a fun project and I think everyone who participated enjoyed the project.  With that said, I would like to thank the following CERT members for volunteering their time for a very worthwhile project: Christie Blanton, Mike Charkhuff, Arif Chaudhary, Cherise Crosby, Chantella Crosby, AJ Crosby, DJ Crosby, LJ Crosby, William Culver, Sam Etheredge, Herman Ledbetter, and Richard McAbee.

4/13/09 - PACOLET ELEMENTARY HEALTH FAIR

Spartanburg CERT was honored to be part of the Pacolet Elementary Health Fair.  The fair was a huge success.  I would like to thank Parks and Recreation for their assistance setting up our booth.  I hope enjoy the 4 out of focus pictures I took.

4/16/09 - FIRE SUPPRESSION CLASS

On 4/16/09 our 2nd class of the year participated in a Fire Suppression class.  I hope you enjoy the pictures that were taken at this event.

4/25/09 - 5K RUN TRAFFIC CONTROL AND GPS CLASS

April 25th was a very busy day for Spartanburg CERT.  We started the day working Traffic Control for a 5k Run at North Spartanburg.  Following the 5k Run, we took a break and many of us reconvened for a GPS In-Service Class.  If you were there and want to check out some of the pics, please feel free.

5/1/09 - RELAY FOR LIFE - NORTH SPARTANBURG

For the 3rd year, Spartanburg CERT is assisting Relay with trash and minimal first aid duties.  While I had to leave at 3:30 due to Spring Fling, Richard and Ben Yoo stayed for the duration of the event.  In addition, Doug Nissley, Jared Foster, and Barbara Daniels came out to assists.  I would like to thank everyone who made an effort to attend and for Doug Nissley snapping some pictures.  For those who frequent the photo galleries, you can tell a noticeable difference between my photographic skills and Doug's.  With that said, I hope you enjoy this gallery.

5/2/09 - 5/3/09 - SPARTANBURG SPRING FLING

Spartanburg CERT not only had a booth at this year's Spring Fling, we also assisted with traffic and crowd control.  Needless to say, this was our most active Spring Fling and I can't thank the following people enough for attending: Antonio Craig (Both Days All Day), Mark McClure (Majority of Both Days), Cherise Crosby (Majority of Both Days), Chantella Crosby (Majority of Both Days), AJ Crosby (Majority of Both Days), DJ Crosby (Majority of Both Days), LJ Crosby (Majority of Both Days), Doug Nissley (Majority of Both Days), Kenneth Cash (Saturday - 7:00am - 10:00pm), Eric Bremer (Saturday 7:00am 10:00pm), Patricia Rice (Saturday 10:00am 1:00pm), Tammy Wilson (Sat 1:00pm 4:00pm), David Wilson (Sat 1:00pm 4:00pm), William Culver (Sat 1:00pm - 10:00pm), Tony Scruggs (Sat 1:00pm - 10:00pm & Sun 9:00am - 11:00pm), Bob Grudzien (Sat 5:00pm 10:00pm), Barbara Grudzien (Sat 5:00pm - 10:00pm),  Bill Leeder (Sat & Sun 7:00pm 10:00pm), Mike Carkhuff (Sunday All Day), Holt Erwin (Sunday 9:00am -12:00pm), Christie Blanton (Sunday 11:00am 7:00pm), Herman Ledbetter (Sunday 11:00am 7:00pm), Teresa Foster (Sunday 12:00pm 3:00pm), and Samuel Etheredge (Sunday - 2:30PM - 10:00PM).  Overall, 24 CERT members assisted during this 2 day event.  For those who were unable to attend, please check out the photo galleries.

5/2/09 - 5/3/09 - TRAFFIC CONTROL FOR REHAB CONCERT

The largest assignment given to the Spartanburg County CERT program during Spartanburg Spring Fling, was crowd and traffic control for the REHAB concert.  For this special assignment, the following CERT members administered crowd/traffic control: Christie Blanton, Cherise Crosby, A.J. Crosby, Antonio Craig, Herman Ledbetter, Samuel Etheredge, Teresa Foster, Mark McClure, and Robbie Swofford.  All in all, job well done by everyone involved.  I hope you enjoy a few of the pictures Teresa took while carrying out her crowd control duties.

5/9/09 - SCOUT DAY

For the third consecutive year CERT participated in Scout.  However, unlike years past, we also assisted with the 5k Run as traffic control officer.  All in all, Scout Day was a success.  However, for Bob, Tony and myself, the bulk of our day was spent at the Rhodia Exercise.

5/9/09 - RHODIA - REHAB EXERCISE

Around 4:45pm on 5/8/09 the CERT Rehab unit was asked to participate in the Rhodia Full Scale Exercise.  This exercise would commence at 9:00am.  Therefore, once dispatched, we planned to leave Scout Day, head to the office, load up and leave.  While we made great time, other agencies were already on-scene and when dispatched, began conducting the exercise.  While this apparently wasn't a real-time full scale, I was proud of our response time and our ability to setup in crowded conditions.  Needless to say, this was another successful drill.  Due to the lack of notification, I chose to extend a Rehab Exercise invitation to those who were serving as traffic control officers for Scout Day.  Luckily, I had some takes and 5/9 proved to be a very productive day for CERT.

5/14/09 - CPR/FIRST AID CLASS

Marge Woodruff taught her second CPR/First Aid Course through the American Heart Association for Spartanburg County CERT.  As always, this was was free of charge of those who were interested in taking it.  Overall, we had a great turnout and those who were in the class, really seemed to enjoy.  Feel free to take a look at some of the pictures I took during the second night.

5/16/09 - LYMAN FEST

As always, Lyman Fest proved to be a great event.  Despite the weather, the turnout was good and everyone involved thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  As always, I can't thank Cherise, Chantella, AJ, DJ, and LJ Crosby for their continued assistance at our PR events.  I hope everyone enjoys the pictures I took at this great event.

5/21/09 - START IN-SERVICE

On 5/21 numerous CERT members participated in our START In-Service meeting.  For those who don't know, START stands for Simple Triage and Rapid Treatment.  For those who made it out, they were treated to a great START Video, a START Exercise, and food provide by Fatz Cafe.  For those who came out, I can't thank you enough.  Also, I can't thank Fatz enough for the food (long story).  I hope you enjoy the pictures Doug Nissley took at our second In-Service of the year.

5/22/09 - RELAY FOR LIFE -SPARTANBURG

For the third consecutive year CERT had the privilege of assisting Relay for Life with trash and first aid duties.  While all three years have been great, in my opinion this year was by far the best year we've had at Dorman Relay.  When the sum came up and 7:00am was upon us, you could not have asked for a cleaner track.  With that said, I have to thank the following volunteers for assisting with this year's event: Teresa Foster (all night), Chantella Crosby (all night), AJ Frosby (all night), DJ Crosby (all night), LJ Crosby (all night), Richard Yoo (all night), Ben Yoo (all night), Tony Craig (all night), Charlie King, Mrs. King, Bill Leeder, Dana Leeder, Cherise Crosby, Angela Miller, Doug Nissley, Jackie Danielson, Casey Danielson, Angela Snoddy, Stephanie Everett, Freida Jones, Wendell Button, Lynn Cladwell, Alan Caldwell, Leslie Bright, Linda Bridges, Richard McAbee (came back in the morning), Mary McAbee, Doug Martin.  Including myself, we had 29 CERT members who actively volunteered at our booth during our time at Relay.  In addition, several others were there but were associated with other agencies.  As always, I can't thank everyone enough for coming out and assisting.  I can only hope that next year's Relay will be as good as this one.  For those who missed it, feel free to check out some of the pictures Doug Nissley and Teresa Foster took at this event.

5/23/09 - ARKWRIGHT FAMILY FUN DAY

Well, following Relay Cherise and myself got ready for Arkwright family fun day.  We brought the Rehab Unit for everyone to see and set up a booth in the Fire Department bay.  As always, it's fun to go to Arkwright can catch up with several CERT members who volunteer there or have family that volunteer there.  For those who missed this event, feel free to look at the pictures taken by Cherise and the Spartanburg Herald Journal.

5/30/09 - NEW BEGINNINGS METHODIST CHURCH -FAMILY FUN DAY

Cherise and I teamed up again for yet another Health Fair.  This time we found ourselves in the heart of Boiling Springs trying to recruit volunteers for our upcoming training session.  Needless to say, this was a fun event and we had an opportunity to debut our nacho maker.  While only a few sampled the nachos, they were great and we look forward to doing much of the same next week at Mt. Moriah.  In addition, New Beginnings were very gracious host and we deeply appreciated their hospitality.    With that said, feel free to look at a few of the pictures Cherise took at this event.

6/5/09 - WOODRUFF RELAY FOR LIFE

Unlike previous years where the Woodruff Relay took place on a track, this year's Relay took place on the football practice field with no lighting (press box struck by lightning).  In addition to that hurdle, it rained pretty consistently for the first 4 hours of the event.  However, despite all of this, the citizens of Woodruff stayed, they walked, and they showed why they have won the spirit award in the past.  I've been to other Relay where much less weather has sent everyone running home.  Therefore, I must acknowledge the Woodruff area for showing their true Relay Spirit.  In addition, I must commend the following volunteers for coming out and picking up trash in less than desirable conditions: Christie Blanton (& daughter), Tony Craig. Jackie Danielson, Casey Danielson, Stephanie Everett, Teresa Foster, Doug Martin, Richard McAbee, Doug Nissley, and John Peeler (& wife).  While we left at 1:00am, we picked up a lot of trash and we look forward to our next Relay in September.  Until then, I hope enjoy the pictures Doug Nissley took at this great event.

6/6/09 - Mt. MORIAH - COMMUNITY HEALTH AWARENESS DAY

As always, Mt. Moriah Baptist Church never fails to generate a crowd or interest in the CERT program.  I hope those we recruited can attend our CERT class in August at the downtown library.  In addition, I hope you enjoy the picture Doug took at this great event.  I can't thank the following volunteers enough for coming out and assisting with this Public Relations Endeavour:  Tony Craig, Cherise Crosby, Chantella Crosby, AJ Crosby, DJ Crosby, LJ Crosby, and  Doug Nissley.

6/2009 - MISC PICS FROM JUNE 2009 CERT CLASS

Robert McKee was kind enough to attend several CERT classes during the last training session.  While attending these classes, Robert took a few pictures.  If you were in the June 09 class or if you have an interest in the program, please feel free to view these pictures.

6/20/09 - MIGHTY MOO PARADE AND FESTIVAL

For the 4th consecutive year, the Spartanburg County CERT program had the honor of participating in the Mighty Moo Parade and Festival.  Despite record setting heat, Mighty Moo brought out an impressive crowd of people.  In addition to myself, the following CERT members participated in the festivities: Steven Holum, Robert McKee, Doug Nissley, Eric Von Bremer, and Dylan William.  If you missed this year's festivities, I hope you enjoy the pictures Doug Nissley and I took at this event.

6/27/09 - 6/29/09 - WIDE AREA SEARCH CLASS

For 3 days, TEEX delivered the best Search class that any of us have ever taken.  While I initially wanted to get this class back for Summer 2010, it now appears it will be the Summer of 2011 before we can bring it back.  Therefore, for those who were unable to make it, you will have to wait 2 years for the next class.  However, for those who did take, please continue reviewing our book and material.  The class was so great that we've decided to incorporate much some of it in our Unit 5 curriculum and create an In-Service based on the material.  Needless to say, it was a great class.  For those who would like to view the picture Doug Nissley took at this event, click on the link above.

7/4/09 - INMAN 4TH OF JULY FESTIVAL

For the first time, Spartanburg CERT provided rehab for the citizens of Inman during their 3rd Annual 4th of July Festival.  While the crowds were lower than expected, everyone who showed up thoroughly enjoyed themselves.  Amongst those who showed up were the following CERT members: Tony Craig, Chantella Crosby, AJ Crosby, DJ Crosby, LJ Crosby, Robert McKee, and Doug Nissley.  The Crosby Clan done an awesome job with the games while Robert, Tony, and myself worked Rehab.  In addition, Doug Nissley done a great job with the camera.  Feel free to take a look at his pictures by clicking on the link above.

7/11/09 - 7/12/09 - BASIC THREAT ASSESSMENT

For 2 days, TEEX delivered a course on basic Threat Assessment.  Those from CERT and the community college got a lot from this course.  Almost 90% of those who attended this course are signed up for the Enhanced Course in August.  However, for those who missed the course or for those who would like to reflect back, please feel free to check out the pics taken by Doug Nissley.  I hope to bring this course back to CERT next Summer.

7/18/09 - TEEPA SNOW PRESENTATION

Over 60 people attended the Teepa Snow seminar entitled Dementia: The Lost Person Incident.  Needless to say, everyone now knows why Teepa is considered one of the best in her field.  For 4 hours, Teepa gave one of the best presentations I've personally ever seen.  If you were not there, there is no way to verbalize what she brings to the table. However, Doug Nissley did snap a few shots of one of the best and most interactive presentations I've witnessed.   In addition, for those who wanted Teepa's presentation, I've attached it below.  I hope these two PowerPoint's can serve as refreshers for those who attended and if anything, provide some knowledge to those who missed a great presentation/seminar:

7/25/09 - REGENESIS HEALTH FAIR

As always, the Regenesis Health Fair at Carver Jr High was a huge success.  A countless number of people attended and as always, those with Regenesis were gracious host.  With that said, I would like to thank Doug Nissley, Cherise Crosby , Chantella Crosby, AJ Crosby, DJ Crosby, and LJ Crosby for assisting.  In addition, it was nice to see Walt from 911.  Overall, it was a great event.  If you missed it, Doug Nissley took some pictures.  Feel free to check those out.

7/30/09 - PICS FROM THE FIRST RESPONDER CLASS

For several weeks Bob Grudzien taught First Responder to almost 20 CERT members.  During that time, I snapped a few pictures from the class.  At the conclusion of the class, the following CERT members graduated the First Responder Program: Melanie Ballew, James Barrett, Christy Blanton, Billie Brown, Mike Charkhuff, Richard Hyder, Edward Jarrett, Donna Jackson, Jason Mosely, Joan Massey, Jane Paterson, Eric Peterson, Kristina Robertson, Vivian Tanner, David Wilson, and Tammy Wilson.  With these additional First Responders, we now have over 90 trained First Responders in the program.

8/1/09 - UPSTATE FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER - HEALTH FAIR

To date, this was our most successful Nacho Cheese venture.  When the day was over, we had went through 3 large cans of nacho cheese, 12 regular size bags of nacho chips, and one large industrial bags of chips.  In addition to giving out free food, we tried to provide educational material to the public (however, everyone was fixated on the chips).  During the event, I would like to thank Doug Nissley for coming out and taking some pictures.  After the event, I would like to thank Johnny Tucker for coming out and helping break down and pack up.  All in all, it was a great event.  I hope everyone enjoys the pictures Doug Nissley took.

8/8/09 - POD CLASS

On 8/8/09, 60 members of the Spartanburg County Community Emergency Response Team received training on Points of Distribution from the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD).  This was one of the larger, if not the largest Points of Distribution classes taught by SCEMD.  In addition to thanking SCEMD,

Spartanburg CERT would like to thank the following vendors for donating equipment for this exercise: Ballew Trucking, Tidewater Transit, and Sunbelt Rentals.  Without their assistance, this exercise would not have been possible.  In addition, CERT would like to thank the following volunteers for attending this training:

8/15/09 - SPARTANBURG COUNTY SECOND ANNUAL KICKBALL TOURNAMENT

Seven teams participated in the 2nd Annual Spartanburg County Kickball Tournament.  While one team didn't show, everyone who attended had a great time.  This was the first year that Spartanburg County CERT hosted the event.  Unlike last year, there was no controversy over who won.  While Most Hated lost a game due to a bad call, at the end the two best teams played for the championship. After a grueling 2 game set at the end, Old Dirty Balls beat Skoolyard Bullies  to take the championship.  If you we're unable to make the tournament, please feel free to check out some of the pictures.  Since we were hosting, I was unable to take any pictures of those who participated from CERT.  However, I would like to thank the following CERT members for attending:

For the second year, Cherise and I done the Spartanburg Creative Taste.  Unlike last year, we attempted to set up the rehab unit in an effort to keep people out of the elements.  All in all, it was another successful event hosted by the City of Spartanburg.  I hope we're afforded the opportunity to participate in the 3rd Annual Spartanburg Creative Taste.

9/8/09 - HOLLY SPRINGS FD - OES EXHIBIT

On 9/8/09, the Spartanburg County CERT Rehab Unit along with the Spartanburg County Unified Command Post were on exhibit for the Holly Springs FD and Inman Community FD.  Both departments seemed interested in the resources that the Office of Emergency Services can offer during large incidents.  I would like to thank Tony Craig for assisting with this initiative.  I hope you enjoy the pictures I took at this event.

9/12/09 - WOODRUFF GLORY DAYS

For the last several years CERT has had the pleasure of setting up in downtown Woodruff.  While the crowd nor the event were as big as years past, it was a fun event.  I would like to thank Tony Craig, Richard McAbee, Robert McKee and Doug Nissley for participating.  I hope you enjoy the pictures Doug took at this event.

9/15 & 9/17 - REHAB TRAINING

On 9/15 and 9/17, Spartanburg County CERT offered training for those interested in working with the Spartanburg County CERT Rehab Unit.  First, I would like to thank the following people for taking this training: Matt Andrews, Christie Blanton, Barbara Daniels, Herman Ledbetter, Harvey Lux, Doug Martin, Richard McAbee, Mary McAbee, Mark McClure, Angela Miller, Lisa Moore, Eric Peterson, Jerry Shaw, Beverly Tonkovic, Donna Wiggs, and Tom Wiggs

9/19/09 - COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS DAY

The 1st ever Spartanburg County Community Preparedness Day had a great vendor turnout.  While the spectators were few and far between, it was still a success.  Christie, Kathy, and Joe signed up 15 people at the CERT booth. In addition to their efforts, the following people assisted with CERT Rehab and traffic control: Matt Andrews, Ted Button, Wendell Button, Tony Craig (thanks for helping with the trailers that morning), Barbara Daniels, Barbara Grudzien, Bob Grudzien, Ed Jarrett, Mark McClure, Robert McKee (thanks for pulling a trailer), Julie Warner, and Donna Wiggs.  Without everyone's assistance, CERT could not have had such a good showing.  Thanks again to everyone who came out.

9/19/09 - BMW RELAY FOR LIFE

Following Community Preparedness Day, Spartanburg CERT headed to the BMW Relay for Life event.  First, I would like to thank Tony Craig for taking a tent and some material to the BMW Relay.  Since we were unable to get there on time, that was a huge help.  Upon arrival, Matt Andrews, Tony, and myself setup the Rehab Unit.  Following that, Doug Martin, Lisa Moore, Brittany Moore, and Chantella Crosby assisted with running the booth.  In addition, Cherise, AJ, DJ, and LJ also came out to show their support.  While we really didn't have an opportunity to carryout field maintenance, Doug Martin done some traffic control and most importantly, we had fun.  Feel free to check out the pictures I took at this event.  While Matt Andrews beat me twice on the wet track, I plan to train during the off season and try again next year.

9/26/09 - INMAN HARVEST DAY

While I was unable to spend much time in Inman due to the DOD Teen CERT training (see Exercise gallery), I know one thing...it was a wet one.  While it was a rain shortened event, I would like to thank Robert McKee and Teresa Foster for running the CERT booth.  Since it was a shortened event, I only took a few pictures.  However, feel free to check those out.

10/8/09 - ARCADIA HEALTH FAIR

For the second time in 3 years, Spartanburg County CERT participated in the Arcadia Health Fair.  This year we took our Rehab Unit to the Health Fair in an effort to spread Emergency Preparedness Information along with free nachos.  While we really didn't succeed in spreading Emergency Preparedness Information, we did succeed in giving away free nachos.  In addition to myself, Robert McKee and Doug Nissley assisted with this event.  I can't thank them enough.  I hope you enjoy some of the pics Doug took at this event.

10/10/09 - I-RECYCLE RUN

On 10/10, the following CERT members assisted Spartanburg Public Safety with traffic control: Kenneth Cash, Arif Chaudhary, Joan Massey, Donna Wiggs, and Tom Wiggs.  Since I was only there for a few minutes, only a few pictures were taken.  However, it was a very successful event and I hope we're afforded the opportunity to assist with this event next year.

10/10/09 - 2009 HHW Collection Day

Shortly after leaving the YMCA, Spartanburg CERT set up their Rehab Trailer at the Spartanburg County Administration Building.  In addition to myself, the following CERT members assisted: Christie Blanton, Arif Chaudhary, Cherise Crosby, Barbara Daniels, Herman Ledbetter, Robert McKee, Doug Nissley, Kristina Robertson, and Danny Watkins.

10/11/09 - CITY OF SPARTANBURG - PREPAREDNESS DAY

On 10/11, Doug Nissley and I ran the CERT Rehab Unit in Downtown Spartanburg from 2:00 until 5:00.  During that time, we distributed some preparedness information and witnessed some interesting displays.  All in all, it was a good event.  Doug captured some of this event on camera.  Please feel free to check out those pictures in this gallery.

10/12/09 - 10/18/09 - PIEDMONT INTERSTATE FAIR

For the 5th year, Spartanburg CERT setup at the Piedmont Interstate Fair.  This year taught us one thing, next year we're setting up inside.  Needless to say, this was not a good week for the Fair or for the CERT booth.  However, we made the most of it.  I can't thank Doug Nissley enough for coming out every day.  On Friday night and the vast majority of Saturday, Doug done the booth by himself.  I can't thank him enough.  Also, thanks to Tony Craig who helped on the first and last day.  While it wasn't the best fair for us, Doug took some great pics while he was there.

11/7/09 - CERT COMMUNITY DAY

On 11/7/2009, the Spartanburg County CERT was out and in full force across the entire Spartanburg Community.  For the first time ever, Spartanburg County CERT assisted the following three agencies on three separate projects all on the same day:

While we had three seperate projects, all projects were completed on that day or shortly thereafter.  I would like to thank the following CERT members who took their time to assist with these great community projects:

11/11/09 - SPARTANBURG VETERANS DAY PARADE

For the 4th year in a row, Spartanburg CERT had the honor of participating in the Spartanburg Veterans Day Parade.  Despite less than desirable weather, the following CERT members came out to support the program and most importantly, our Veterans: Antonio Craig, Mary McAbee, Richard McAbee, Debbie Tate, Mike Tate, and Danny Watkins (& son). I hope you enjoy the few pictures I took at this event.

11/28/09 - COWPENS CHRISTMAS PARADE

The Cowpens Christmas Parade marked the beginning of the 2009 Holiday Parade Season for Spartanburg County CERT.  Needless to say this parade marked the beginning of many well attended parades.  With that said, the following CERT members attended the Cowpens Christmas Parade: Christie Blanton, Connie Linder, Cherise Crosby, LJ Crosby, AJ Crosby, DJ Crosby, Herman Ledbetter, Angela Miller, Robert McKee, Johnny Tucker, and Chris Vasilneko.  Once again, s special thanks to everyone who attended.

12/3/09 - LANDRUM CHRISTMAS PARADE

Once again, the Landrum Christmas Parade was extremely cold but at least the weather was decent.  Unlike in years past, we had a great turnout.  This year, the following CERT members participated in the Landrum Christmas Parade: Herman Ledbetter, Robert McKee, Angela Miller, Thom Reel, Dawn Shinkar, and Chris Vasilneko.  With kids, we had our first ever full float for the Landrum Parade.  Thanks again to everyone who came out.

12/5/09 - INMAN CHRISTMAS PARADE

As always, the Inman Christmas Parade was well attended despite terrible weather.  This year, the Inman Christmas Parade was attended by the following CERT members: Tony Craig, Jackie Danielson, Teresa Foster, Donna Jackson, Mark McClure, Robert McKee, Angela Miller, and Doug Nissley.  With kids and grandkids, we had a huge turnout.

12/6/09 - GREER CHRISTMAS PARADE

Once again, the Greer parade was the best parade of 2009.  While weather did damper the Spartanburg Christmas Parade, the Greer Parade was clearly the best.  For those who were able to attend, they had a blast.  For 2009, the following CERT members road on the float:  Tony Craig, Casey Danielson, Jackie Danielson, Teresa Foster, Robert McKee, Doug Nissley, Mike Tate, Debbie Tate, David Wilson, and Tammy Wilson.  Overall, with children, we had an impressive float and hope we're afforded the opportunity to do the Greer parade next year.

12/8/09 - SPARTANBURG CHRISTMAS PARADE

This was the coldest and wettest parade of 2009.  We and the library were the only two floats with people on them according to several who watched.  With that said, I can't thank the following people enough for enduring this awful parade experience: Tony Craig, Jackie Danielson, Mark McClure, Robert McKee, Kristina Roberston, Debbie Tate, and Mike Tate.

12/12/09 - BOILING SPRINGS CHRISTMAS PARADE

This was the first year that CERT participated in the Boiling Springs Christmas Parade.  A special thanks to Paul Barriage for letting us in the parade and many thanks to the following CERT members for participating: Thomas Brown, Kelli Brown, Steve Caldwell, Susan Cook, Tony Craig, Doug Nissley, Mark McClure, Robert McKee, Brittany Moore, Tammy Wilson, and David Wilson

12/12/09 - REIDVILLE CHRISTMAS PARADE

As always, the Reidville Christmas Parade packs a large punch for such a small parade.  All in all, it was a great parade and everyone was in the Holiday spirit.  I can't thank the following CERT members enough for attending this years parade: Thomas Brown, Kelli Brown, Arif Chaudhary, Tony Craig, Susan Cook, Cherise Crosby, AJ Crosby, DJ Crosby, LJ Crosby, Chantella Crosby, Jackie Danielson, Stephanie Everett, Carrie Fuqua, Doug Nissley, Richard McAbee, Mary McAbee, and David Wilson.  Overall, we pulled more CERT members in the Reidville Parade than any other parade this season.  Thanks again to everyone who made that possible

12/13/09 - WOODRUFF CHRISTMAS PARADE

What more fitting than a cold, damp parade to end the wettest parade season we've ever experienced.  Despite the weather and some confusion about the start time, the following CERT members came out to support our last parade effort: Steve Cladwell, Tony Craig, Kristina Robertson (& family), Debbie Tate, and Mike Tate.  Despite the weather, this parade had a great crowd.  Once again, a special thanks to everyone who made this parade and all of our parades possible this season.

12/17/09 - CERT HOLIDAY BASH

Once again, Ken Tuck and the Spartanburg Water System was kind enough to let us utilize the Rainbow Lake Pavilion for our fifth annual Holiday Bash.  This was by far the best attended Bash we've ever had.  Of course, we've grown since last year so naturally that's to be expected.  However, I can't thank everyone enough.  During the 2009 CERT Holiday Bash, the following CERT Volunteers were recognized for their efforts:
