Steve Brown and I took a few pictures at the second annual Lyman Fest. I would like to thank Phil Blanton and Steve Brown for helping out with this Public Relations effort. We look forward to next year's festivities.
First, I would like to thank Micah Horton, Kathy Hurry, Bruce Hurry, Barbara Grudzien, and Bob Grudzien for helping man the booth during Spring Fling. Saturday was a very productive day. Unfortunately, Sunday was rained out. I would especially like to thank Bob for helping set up and immediately tear down the CERT Tent that Sunday. In addition, thank you Kathy for taking some great pictures and thanks to all who took the time to pay us a visit. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
If you came to Chesnee Fest and didn't see the CERT booth, then I'm not surprised. While our placement could have been better, we enjoyed spending a Saturday in Chesnee. We will definitely return next year in a new location. Thanks again to Kathy for taking some great pictures.
On May 27th, CERT participated in Preparedness Fair 06. We had great placement and learned some new PR strategies for future event. Every event is a new experience and we learn how to improve for our next show. I would like to thank Barbara Grudzien, Bob Grudzien, and Kathy Hurry for their support. In addition, I would like to thank our fellow CERT member, Carol Justice, for some great pictures. If you have a moment, please check them out.
First, I would like to thank Micah Horton, Barbara Grudzien, and Rebecca Grudzien for helping setup (Micah) and man the tent (Barb & Becky). Following the parade, we had a burst of traffic and signed up quiet a few people. As with every fair/festival, we have learned from our mistakes and will have a better game plan for next year. It seems every festival is different. You have to make adjustments based on the layout and the peek hours for traffic. We plan to take these lessons learned and apply them to the Mighty Moo 07. I hope you enjoy the few picture we took from this year's festival.
Family Bash 06 was a blast if you didn't run two booths. Needless to say, we greatly over extended ourselves for this event. With about 8 hours total invested in just putting up and tearing down both locations, Family Bash was exhausting. In the future, you can find CERT located inside, free from the deafening music that makes it impossible to tell anyone about the program. Once inside, we will make every effort to stay away from the Magic Show. This year, our booth was blocked the entire day due to the Magic Show crowd. So, in summation, we invested 8 hours for 5 hours worth of display time blocked by the Magic Show crowds and impeded by loud music. However, our inside booth looked great. We plan to incorporate a similar approach at this year's fair. Hope to see you there and enjoy some pictures from this year's Family Bash.
With over 50 people in attendance, the CERT Summer Bash was a blast. I would like to thank the following people/organizations for their contributions: Bob and Barbara Grudzien (storing food, cooking, setting up, etc), Steve Brown (setting up), Bill Leeder (supplies, setting up, cooking), Joseph Tonkovic (supplies, setting up, cooking), Bill Bomar (providing Boat rides for our CERT team), Ingles (donation), Wal-Mart (donation), and SAM's (donation). I would like to thank those who attended and we look forward to doing it again next year.
This past Saturday, Steve Brown, Ready Fox, and I were running a disaster preparedness booth. While we didn't have a huge crowd, we met a potential interpreter for our CERT program and we should appear in a Spanish publication in the near future. If you have a moment, check out our photo gallery. Ready Fox was definitely the main attraction and we would like to thank him for participating.
Steve and I had a great time at Inman Harvest Day. The CERT wheel made its debut and did very well. We had ten or so show real interest in the CERT program and gave out a lot of information. All in all we were very pleased with our location, the turnout, and what we were able to accomplish. We look forward to participating in next year's Harvest Day.
Steve Brown and I were at the Piedmont Interstate Fair all week. Unlike last year, we had some slow moments. However, Coke did a great job bringing them in and we appreciate all of the Coke products they provided us during the week. We also appreciate everything Wayne Harmon (Director, Piedmont Interstate Fair) has done for our program. If you didn't have a chance to visit us, please check out the photos Steve and I took at Fair (with Steve's camera...thanks).
I would like to thank Steve Brown (all week), Shirley Williams (Monday - Wednesday), Bob Grudzien (Sat - Sun), and Barbara Grudzien (Sunday) for helping man the CERT booth. In addition, I would also like to thank Communication 911 for their support. For four days we had the privilege to work with Jason "Read Fox/Blue Alert" Watson, Tammie Johnson, Lisa Carroll, Charlotte Hames, and Penny "don't call me Minnie" Kirby. All in all, it was a great week and a very productive CERT membership drive.
On October 21st I had the privilege of participating in the Pacolet Indian Summer Festival. This was a great event and the town of Pacolet should be proud. The Parks and Recreation Department did an awesome job bringing this together. As always, we did not have the best location. However, it was a fun day. I would like to thank Jason Watson and Penny Kirby for coming out. The kids love Ready Fox and that really made their day. To see some highlights of the festival, check out the picture gallery.

The Spartanburg County CERT Team was honored to be in the Cowpens Christmas Parade. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and hope we can do it again next year. Considering this was our first parade, I was very proud of our effort. The float looked great and the following CERT members made it possible: Douglas Martin (provided trailer), Bill Leeder (provided inverter), Doug Nissley (took pictures), MT Myers, Arif Chadhary, Richard McAbee, Mary McAbee, and William Culver. I hope you enjoy the pictures Douglas Martin and Doug Nissley took.
The Spartanburg County CERT Team thoroughly enjoyed itself in the Chesnee Christmas Parade. Despite the delayed start, Chesnee treated us well and we had a great turnout. I would like to thank the following CERT members for helping with the Chesnee Christmas Parade: Douglas Martin, Doug Nissley, MT Myers, Karmilla Brannon, Samuel Etheredge,, Johnny Tucker and Arif Chadhary. I hope you enjoy the pictures Douglas Martin and Doug Nissley took. Also, I would like to thank Sam, Johnny, and Karmilla for bringing their kids. Kids really make a Christmas float special.
I would like to thank everyone who made the Inman Christmas Parade one of our most attended. The parade itself was also very well attended and I believe the following CERT members thoroughly enjoyed themselves: Douglas Martin, Doug Nissley, MT Myers, Arif Chaudhary, Karmilla Brannon (and child), Samuel Etheredge (and child), Teresa Foster, Jared Foster (and family), Savannah Sabo (and child), Bill Leeder, Richard McAbee, Marta Batche, William Culver, Lynn Lamb. Carol Robinson, Tanya Smith, and Bryan Grudzien. All in all, this was an awesome parade and we look forward to doing it again next year.
If you're looking for a small town parade with plenty of fire trucks, ambulances, tractors, and 4-Wheelers then check out the Campobello parade next year. This was a very nice parade where you line up in the order you arrive. I would like to thank Doug Nissley, Douglas Martin, MT Myers, Marta Batche, Steve Brown (and family), and Jared Foster (and family). Check out some of the great pictures Doug Nissley, Marta Batche and Douglas Martin took. We hope you enjoy them.
This was our first night time parade and our coldest parade. With temperatures around freezing and wind gusts from 20 -30 mph, conditions were miserable. I cannot say thanks enough to Doug Nissley, Douglas Martin, Marta Batche, Len Batche, Steve Brown and Richard McAbee for riding on the float. I know everyone was freezing. I hope you enjoy the pictures Douglas Martin, Doug Nissley, and Steve Brown took in the beautiful town of Landrum. In addition, check out the video below. We appear at the 1:33 mark
After the Landrum Parade, it felt like summertime with temperatures hovering over freezing. This was by far the longest parade route we've been on. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the parade. I would like to thanks Richard McAbee for leading the way. I would also like to thank MT Myers, Doug Nissley, Douglas Martin, and Arif Chaudhary for attending. Once again, both Doug's done a great job with the pictures. I hope you enjoy the pictures they took.
After eating a Thickburger and grabbing a few more ornaments at the Dollar General in Pacolet, I was on my way to Reidville. Steve Brown and Mary McAbee joined the Pacolet crew for another great parade. Considering the size of Reidville, this was an awesome parade. They had the best Santa, Reindeer ladder truck I've seen in any parade. Steve Brown, Doug Nissley, and Douglas Martin took some great pictures of this wonderful small town parade. I hope you enjoy them.
So far, the Woodruff parade has produced a larger crowd than any other small town parade we've attended. While getting in position was a little troublesome, it was a very nice parade. I would like to thank Teresa Foster, MT Myers, Holly Mitchem (Amy and baby boy), and Colleen Mixson (and father) for attending. For those who don't know, Colleen is the Citizen Corp Coordinator for the State and I'm very flattered she joined us for the Woodruff Parade. Also, I would like to thank Richard McAbee for stopping by and saying hello. Mr. McAbee was driving the Red Cross van in this parade and he done an awesome job. Thanks again to everyone who attended. I hope you enjoy the pictures we were able to take before our batteries died.
The 2006 Spartanburg Christmas Parade was by far one of the best in many years. The parade was very well attended. If you didn't have an opportunity to view this parade it will be shown in it's entirety on December 25th at 5:00 am. Set your VCR/TIVO timers and watch it when you get it up. I hope the CERT float looked okay. However, we had a few power issues that hampered us throughout the parade. Regardless, we had a blast and I would like to thank the following CERT members for participating: Doug Nissley, Douglas Martin, MT Myers, Steve Brown, Richard McAbee, Mary McAbee, Arif Chaudhary, Jared Foster (and family), Teresa Foster (and grandkids), Bill Leeder, Harvey Lux, Kathy hurry, Amber Grudzien, Bryan Grudzien, Richard Sabo, Tim Prator (and family), Raymond Johnson, and Robin Johnson. I hope everyone enjoyed the parade and I hope everyone enjoys the pictures Doug Nissley took. He does an awesome job.
WSPA aired the parade on Christmas Day at 6:00 am. I recorded the CERT portion of the parade and have the link posted below. While the picture and audio quality isn't excellent, I hope you enjoy this footage.

Several CERT members took some great pictures at our Second Annual CERT Holiday Bash. While many of us were tired after Goodfellows, we made it through the night and had a great time. The Chinese Christmas game seemed to go well. I hope everyone enjoys the pictures taken from the memorable night.
